2010 LXG SEASON

We are preparing for the 2010 season, and pulling together a new schedule, new handicap system, updated website, and new rules. The Site is currently under construction but the forum is still up at this address:   http://www.lxg.skynite.net/index.php

Cost to join the league is $25.00.

$10.00 of this money goes into league funds that help pay for various league fees including trophies and payouts for special qualifying tournaments or prize money for various achievements.

$15.00 is placed in your “reserve” fund. This is used to pay the tournament “prize money” fund of either $2.00 (regular play) or $3.00 (majors). This helps alleviate trying to collect a couple bucks every time we play. Saif keeps an ongoing sheet that tracks all monies throughout the year.

Payouts for tournament wins are paid at the end of the year, usually at the SKINS game or at a restaurant. Payouts are determined by the number of players x the fee amount.   Example- 12 players at $2.00 each (if a regular tourney) = $24.00. Payouts would be:

First place: $12.00 (half of total fees)

Second place: $6.00 (half of first place)

Third place: $3.00 (half of second place)

Fourth place $1.50 (half of third place)

Fifth place .75 (half of fourth place)

Anything left goes to the league fees pot. This is usually less than a dollar.

The proposed schedule is below, and expands the area to include nine courses over the season. Mike Fitzgibbons has graciously offered to update and track players handicaps, mostly based on the NCGA system.

Below is a sample of how your handicaps might look, based on 2009 play. This is still being finalized, but you can get an idea of where you might stand. This is based on an Index and slope rating, with minor additions from LXG as needed.

Mike Rudy Fitzgibbons will add in new player’s handicaps AS THEY PAY OR TURN IN THEIR QUALIFYING PRACTICE POUNDS.

Below is the proposed system Mike will be basing everyone’s handicaps on. As handicaps are always a guestimate at best, any system we use can be adjusted if it looks like it’s not working as projected.

Handicaps:

This year, LXG will be using a slightly modified version of the NCGA handicap system.  You can learn more about it at:

http://www.ncga.org/

In summary, each LXG player will have an index.  The index is used in combination with the slope of the course to arrive at your handicap.  Your index is calculated by differentials and will be updated weekly.  New players with current NCGA indexes can use them until they establish a LXG index.  We will also use equitable stroke control to remove abnormally high individual hole scores which could unduly affect your index.

Players who win or tie for first place:  First win or tie for first: no penalty.  Second win or tie for first place will result in a permanent 1 stroke penalty deducted from your handicap. Each win or tie for first place thereafter adds an additional permanent 1 stroke penalty to be deducted from your handicap (3 firsts = 2 penalty strokes, 4 firsts = 3 penalty strokes).

By Differentials

A handicap differential is the difference between the adjusted gross score and the NCGA/USGA Course Rating, multiplying the difference by 113, dividing the results figure by the NCGA/USGA Slope Rating and rounding off to the nearest tenth. The following is an example for a course with a 71.5 Course Rating and a 130 Slope Rating.

Adjusted Gross Score

95

Course Rating

71.5

Difference

23.5

Handicap Differential

113 x 23.5 divided by 130 = 20.4

The value 113 in the above formula is the national standard for Slope Ratings and is used to weigh differentials.

INDEX Formula

Lowest 10 of Last 20 Differentials. The INDEX is computed from the lowest 10 of the player’s last 20 rounds as follows:

Total of 10 lowest differentials

Total multiplied by 96%

14.19

Equitable Stroke Control

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is a procedure whereby abnormally high individual hole scores are adjusted downward prior to the score being posted. ESC sets a maximum number that a golfer can post on any hole, depending on the golfer’s Course Handicap (not his Handicap Index) based on 18 holes.  Individual hole scores are adjusted for handicap purposes per the following table:

Course Handicap

 Maximum number  on any hole

10 through 19

We want to continue to keep the league fun, but we also want to maintain the integrity of the game. We should all be helping with each player’s scores in our group, and if any question on a shot, mark your score, explain on the card how you determined the score for the hole, and we can always adjust up or down based on how it should have been scored.

 Lost Balls/Provisional’s/Out of bounds:

Rules for the 2010 Season:  The plan is to follow USGA rules this year.  NO MORE 1-stroke penalty for everything.  You now can be penalized a 2 stroke penalty or stroke plus distance.

Here’s a couple scenario’s:

1. Steve Kuns hits a brilliant drive down the 7 hole on the back nine of Arcade Creek.  He thinks he drove the ball 250 yards down the right side of the fairway with a little fade.  He assumes that the shot is safe and is just of the fairway in the rough.  He refuses to take a provisional and heads down to his ball.  Upon arriving at the site of where he thinks the ball is, he cannot locate the ball.  The ball is a lost ball and he has two options.  Either go back and hit the drive again which would be his 3rd stroke or drop where he thinks the ball went out or was lost, and hit his 4th shot.

2. Jeff Luna hits an amazing shot down the second hole of Land Park and has lost it to the right into the fenced area.  Now we know Jeff cannot hit the ball that far even if his life depended on it but follow me on this.  Jeff walks up to the fence and can see the ball buts it’s on the other side of the fence and is out-of-bounds.  He drops two club lengths away from the fence and hits his 4th stroke.  If the ball crosses an out-of-bounds stake, it’s a 2 stroke penalty.

3. Kiko Montecinos hits his usual, “I can hit a 350 yard drive all day”, 250 yard drive down the 9th hole of Bartley Cavanaugh but it sails left a little and may have trickled into the water.  He walks down to where he thought the ball was, only to discover that it indeed has gone into the water.  He now can drop from where the ball entered the water and back to anywhere along the flight path of the ball all the way back to the tee if he so decides and hits his 3rd stroke.  All hazards are only 1-stroke penalty.

Follow all course rules, that’s means no hitting over the street at Land Park.  Also, if you miss your 1 foot putt and you get angry and hit the ball across the green you will be punished with an equitable stroke maximum for that hole.  We’re still ironing out what the maximums are, but it’s probably something like doubling the par.  So control that anger Wasim j/k.  One more thing, if someone hits a drive a foot over the line at the tee box, give the guy a break, he’s probably drunk.  Same thing goes for if the player accidentally drops the ball off the tee while addressing the ball.  This is a beer league and therefore people do tend to stumble of the course.  Let’s keep it fun but at the same time maintain the integrity of the game.
